WHAT IS REIKI?
Reiki (pronounced ra ke) is a form of natural healing that dates back to ancient times and was revived in 19th century Japan. Reiki means “universal life energy” in Japanese.
The healthy human body is composed of a dynamic energy system. A full session of reiki will help balance the energy system of the body, the endocrine glands (which are necessary for the proper functioning of the body as well as the body’s ability to handle and adapt to stress), and the internal organs. Reiki can also help alleviate pain, physical trauma, post-surgical wounds, and acute and chronic conditions, such as arthritis.
Different than massage, it is not necessary to undress during a session. Instead of stroking and kneading the body, reiki practitioners funnel healing energy through their hands to specific places on the human body that closely align with acupressure points. This helps the body do what it does naturally - heal itself. Reiki is very gentle and relaxing.
A typical reiki session lasts 1 hour. Like massage, 1 session is very relaxing and stress-reducing, but the best results come from repeated sessions. For anyone interested in experiencing this unique and gentle form of healing, a free reiki circle is open to the public every 3rd Tuesday evening of the month at Eatonville’s Wellness Center.
